Kissan has been making jam in India since the 1930s, and mixed fruit is the one most people grew up on. Bright, sweet, thick enough to hold its shape on a knife, and familiar in the way that only childhood food manages.
It is a breakfast staple for a reason. Spread it thick on toast or fresh bread and that is most mornings sorted.
It does more than toast. Layer it into a sandwich for a lunchbox, spoon it through plain yoghurt, use it between sponge layers, or warm a little and pour it over ice cream. It also does the job in a bread-and-jam roll, which is what half the country eats when there is no time.
Find it in the pantry aisle at Curry Corner, North Melbourne.
